A guide on travel insurance
08.12.2008
Saving all year for that chance to go abroad this summer and you are finally packing your case and checking your list, have you packed your towels, sunglasses, sun cream, arm bands for the children or travel insurance…travel insurance?
Yes, you need to ensure you have relevant cover for your holiday before you set foot on the plane, train or boat as you could be set to stump up thousands of pounds in the event of an accident. You could join the thousands of travellers who believe that it is a waste of money and think that it will never happen to them and for some it may be true, but the risk is too high.
Your travel insurance can cover you if your holiday is cancelled, if your holiday's provider is made bankrupt or if you have your possessions stolen, damaged or lost. If any of these were to happen they would cause a great amount of stress.
One of the biggest mistakes you could make is to just panic buy; simply go out and buy the first type of cover offered to us thinking it will do it all. Check your policy over and over to ensure you will be covered for exactly what you want to do. Some policies will not cover a person if they are harmed whilst partaking in dangerous sports such as hand gliding or water skiing so ensure your policy enables you to do so.
Also, millions of pounds are wasted each year in the UK as people take out cover when they already have the insurance they need. Travel insurance can be offered by banks to lure you into setting up an account with you but this cover tends to be very limited so you should always check. If you are planning to drive whilst abroad you may also be covered in your car insurance policy, again you will have to check. You may also be covered if you die through your life insurance policy.
You can save money on your holiday insurance by buying your cover annually, if you travel a lot then it will reduce the overall amount you pay. Also if you have children who you travel a lot with then you should look to buy family cover as opposed to individual. Combine these and you will save a small fortune.
Search for your travel insurance online to compare entire quotes against each other instantly, this is one of the most effective methods to save money and obtain the prefect cover for your trip.

A representative of the owner attended the thrilling launch, together with the CRN staff, always on hand for the ceremony that represents the crowning moment of a building process which began several months earlier.

The launching provides further evidence of the continued excellence and growth of the shipyard, now engaged exclusively in the construction of three-deck pleasure craft measuring over 40 meters in length. The day was a very special one for CRN, which, apart from the launching, is also engaged in the complex operation of moving the new CRN 43, the third maxi-yacht of the line, plus the Riva 115’, both of which shall be outfitted and completed at the Ancona shipyard.

This 161 ft. x 28 ft. (49m x 8.5m) motoryacht is powered by two (2) Caterpillar 3516 B (Series II-HD) rated marine engines at 3,384hp each at 1800 rpm and encased in a heavily insulated engine room. IMAGINE can accommodate an Owner’s party of ten (10) in five spaciously planned staterooms in mahogany with en suite baths exquisitely finished with inlaid marble. The interior decorator was Sylvie Charest with great support from the owner’s wife throughout the entire project.
Each of the four guest staterooms are located below the main deck. There are two with king size berths, two with twin berths.
The full beam Owners’ suite, accessible through the owners private office, is located forward on the main deck and is complete with walk-in his/her closets. There is an elegant sitting area and luxurious ensuite master bathroom that includes a whirlpool tub, his and her vanity with etched glass recessed within a marble counter and a large book-matched marble shower as well as heated inlaid marble floors with deep rich earth tones. Ferretti and Pershing win the yachting section; new marinas on the way Pershing got a Best-of-the-Best vote in Shanghai
As we noted last month, China has a long way to go in providing support facilities for yachts cruising its waters, mainly due to the fact that yachting as a pastime has yet to catch on with the Chinese population. However, we missed a report in December that stated that in Dalian (a major port on the north east coast) the Starbay Yacht Club is well on the way to completion. The club, which opened in the autumn of 2006, already has 80 slips with a total capacity for 270.
Owned by the Chinese government and built by Grand Leisure Marina Development Company of Shanghai, Starbay covers about 101,660sq yards (21 acres) and boasts a 22,000sq ft clubhouse. Steve Xie, Grand Leisure president, says Starbay is one of the first of many marinas that will be completed soon in China. “Pleasure boating is just catching on in China,” he said. “This is a young market with enormous potential.”
Also significant is a survey conducted by the Chinese Hurun Report (www.hurun.net) detailing the luxury preferences of the well-to-do citizens of China. At a Best-of-the-Best event held in Shanghai, Ferretti and Pershing came out as the most popular yachts in the Luxury Cruising and Luxury Performance categories, respectively. There were many other categories, from Scotch to watches, including Best Watch with High Complications. For example, the Best Super Luxury Car for Self-drive was the Bentley Continental GT. See the Hurun web site for the full list of winning brands.
